An elected president governs the Village of Union Grove with six elected trustees who hold 2-year staggered terms. These positions are considered part-time. The village administrator is a full-time position, created in 1995. A chairman and two trustees, who are elected for a 2-year term in April of odd-numbered years, govern the surrounding Townships of Yorkville and Dover. Both the Village Board and the Town Boards appoint members of a Planning Commission, who advise them on approving new commercial and residential development. The Village of Union Grove contracts with the Racine County Sheriff's Department to provide police services. DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is taught to 5th graders in Racine County. The Union Grove-Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad is made up of dedicated volunteers with modern vehicles and equipment, including defibrillators and a thermal imaging camera. Sheriff's Rescue personnel are trained to the EMT-Basic and EMT-intermediate level. The Kansasville Volunteer Fire Department has built a 30-foot wooden training tower and pond, which is available for use by all area departments. Volunteers in all area departments put in countless hours of training and service each year. The Graham Public Library offers pre-school story hours both spring and fall, annual book sale, and interlibrary loans through the Lakeshores Library System. Summer Reading Program begins mid-June for children in grades K-6 and features guest performers. The Union Grove Recreation Department offers basketball, soccer,
T-ball, girls fast pitch, boys slow pitch and coach pitch baseball. With the cooperation
of the Union Grove Youth Baseball Association Hardball is offered, and Racine Youth Sports
football is offered.
