Seventeen churches encompassing most major denominations are located in Union Grove and nearby communities. Several have celebrated their sesquicentennial or 150th anniversary. Several operate pre-school programs and offer before and after-school childcare.

Most of the churches support the ecumenical Union Grove Area Food Bank, located at 1015 State St. Referrals come from human service caseworkers and members of the clergy. Used clothing is distributed twice a year.

The Union Grove Area Clergy Association sponsors a CROP Walk on a Sunday afternoon in October to raise funds for world hunger and for the local food bank. Another cooperative effort is an annual ecumenical Thanksgiving service.
