Solid Waste Collection

Full service solid waste collection includes the collection of trash rubbish in standard garbage cans and trash bags under 40 gallons that weigh less than 60 pounds.  An additional 12 large items per year will be taken at no charge, including couches, furniture, tables, small auto parts, construction material and carpet cut into 6 ft. lengths.  Limited to 6 – 32 gallon cans.

 

 

Items that are NOT recyclable and are considered trash:

 

  • Empty paint cans are accepted as trash, if the can is empty and the lid is removed 
  • Paper towels, tissue products, diapers, plastic grocery bags 
  • All window, auto glass, light bulbs and dishes of any type 
  • All aluminum foil, pie tins, pots, pans, gasoline cans, rims, chains, bolts, nails, etc.  
  • All Styrofoam products, plastic bags, motor oil containers and antifreeze containers 
  • All pesticide – herbicide containers, plastic toys, garden plastic, plastic tarps, plastic mail boxes, etc. 
  • All toasters, can openers, pizza ovens, etc.

Recycling

                 

Please recycle your household materials, and keep paper and cardboard products separate from glass, aluminum, tin and plastic bottles!

Note: Paper and cardboard only - pickup is every other week.  Dates for the rest of February and March are February 19th, March 5th and March 19th. 

Items to recycle: 

 

Paper and Cardboard Products:

Accepting newspapers, magazines, paper bags, catalogs, mail circulars, envelopes, office paper, telephone books, flattened cardboard boxes, flattened pizza boxes, flattened cereal boxes, flattened food boxes, flattened beer and soda cases, and any other type of flattened cardboard, shredded paper. 

Note: Glass, aluminum, tin and plastic bottles - pickup is every other week (opposite week of paper and cardboard).  Dates for the rest of February and March are February 26th, March 12th and March 26th

Glass bottles and jars:  Accepting clear, brown, green bottles and jars only – please rinse to keep insects away.

 

Aluminum containers: Soda cans, beer cans, juice cans, etc. – please rinse to keep insects away.

Tin and bi-metal containers: Soup cans, vegetable cans, juice cans, coffee cans, etc. – please rinse to keep rodents and insects away.

Plastic containers: Bottles #1 thru #6, soda, beer, milk, laundry soap, ketchup, mustard, salad dressing, etc. – please rinse to keep rodents and insects away.

 

Used motor oil:  Maximum 2 gallons per week; must be sealed in 1 gallon container.

 

Batteries: Car, truck, motorcycle, lawn mower, etc.  Casing must be unbroken.  Maximum 1 per week

 

Appliances: Includes washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers etc.  Put out on your normal day and it will be removed the following day at no charge.

 

Yard waste: Will be picked up on the last Friday of the month March through November.

 

Construction materials: You can now get a dumpster for small construction jobs, but you must call ASDA Enterprises at 262-539-2086 for cost and availability.

 

Electronic waste: Includes televisions; please call for special handling instructions and the items will be picked up at your residence.

Disposal Methods
  • Bags- must be clear; will not be picked up if they contain recyclables
  • Garbage Cans- no heavier than 50 lbs
  • Time- garbage must be out by 6:00 AM; crew cannot “go back”
    (we suggest setting out the night before)
  • Dumpsters- all of the above
Odds 'n' Ends
  • Paint cans - regular garbage if the paint is dry; leave lid off for a few days to let paint harden
  • Empty motor oil containers - regular garbage even if they are “1” or “2” plastic
  • Light bulbs - regular garbage
Branches/Trees
  • Limbs must be AT LEAST 6 feet long to be chipped (max. 6” diameter). Anything shorter should be bundled.
  • Chipping and yard waste pickup are done the last Friday of each month, March through October.
  • Christmas trees will be collected during the month of January.
Grass Clippings
The Village does not take grass clippings.

Holidays
When there is a holiday on Monday, regular garbage pick-up is one day late.
For other holidays, check Cable Channel 25 or call the Clerk’s office.

Non-Residential
Properties designated as non-residential, (industrial, commercial, multi-family and institutional), are responsible for making arrangements for their garbage collection.

Large Items
Large items are collected by the Village Crew on the last Friday of the month.  The only exceptions are November, when it will be the week after Thanksgiving, and December, when there will be no pick-up at all.

Dumpsters on Loan
The Village has two dumpsters available for one day at a time for large clean-up projects.  The regular garbage rules also apply to the use of these dumpsters. No construction materials can be put into the dumpsters; also no car parts, stone, concrete, yard waste (including leaves, brush, grass clippings), recyclables or appliances. Call the Village Clerk’s Office at 878-1818 to reserve the use of one of the dumpsters. This is strictly on a first-come first-serve basis.


Recycling Guidelines

Recycling will be picked up every week alternating between Paper and cardboard one week, glass, cans , plastics the next.  For questions please call ASDA 262-539-2086.

Mandatory Recyclables
Remove caps from all containers. They are garbage, not recyclable.

Co-mingle in bin:

  • Tin & aluminum cans, rinsed
  • Glass jars and bottles, rinsed
  • Plastic containers numbered 1 through 6 in the recycling triangle
  • All empty aerosol cans
Bundle together:
  • Flattened corrugated cardboard (max 3’ x 3’ x 1’ high)
Co-mingle in paper grocery bag:
  • Newspaper
  • Magazines
  • Optional- junk mail, office paper, chip board (e.g.- cereal boxes)
Recyclables should be placed at the curb no later than 6:00 AM on Friday morning. 

Non-Residential
Properties designated as non-residential, including industrial, commercial, multi-family and institutional are responsible for making arrangements for their recyclables

Mandatory Recyclables
  • All of the items mandatory for residences are also mandatory for apartments and businesses.
  • In addition to these, businesses must recycle all office paper and junk mail.
The specially marked recycling bags should be placed at the curb for the recycling truck... NOT by the dumpsters.

Holiday Schedules
Whenever there is a holiday during the week, the recyclables will be collected a day late,
on Friday.
