The Village of Union Grove is seeking a hard-working, public service-oriented individual with a serious interest in a career in operating water and wastewater systems to serve as its Utility Operator Apprentice! The position will be under direct guidance of state licensed water and wastewater operators. This three-year position may also be directed to assist with activities associated with storm water, street maintenance and snow plowing. The goal of the position is to acquire experience in water and wastewater operations and acquire the ability to obtain state certifications for water and wastewater.
Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and at least 18 years of age. Candidate shall possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and/or be able to obtain within six months a class BCD Commercial Driver’s License with N Endorsement and Air Brakes. First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to become certified within one year. Be able to keep basic records, document information, write legibly and have good communication with co-workers, management and general public. Preferred: Experience with basic mechanical equipment operation and troubleshooting, construction principles, computer knowledge and desire to work in customer service. Should be comfortable with use of small hand and power tools and operation of light and heavy equipment. Candidate should be willing to learn associated occupational hazards and have ability to understand and promote safe work practices.
Compensation: Hourly wage with overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in a week. Excellent benefits package. Pay will be dependent on qualifications, $18 to $22 per hour.

Conditions of Employment: Position has a limited three-year term. Work is primarily outdoor field work that may require entry into confined spaces such as manholes. There can be exposure to inclement weather, fumes, odors and dust that will require use of personal protective equipment. Candidate must be able to do medium to heavy lifting work involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and walking moderate distances around various sites as well as bending and twisting as necessary. Good hearing, visual acuity, depth perception and color vision are required. Selected candidate must pass fit for work physical, alcohol/drug screening and background check prior to first day of employment.
