Project Background

The Village of Union Grove is developing a Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP)! The plan will serve as an update to the Village’s 2003 Park and Open Space Plan. It will take a full inventory and assessment of current park and recreation assets, obtain public input and develop recommendations and a future capital improvement schedule for the parks. CORPs follow Wisconsin Chapter NR 50, Administration of Outdoor Recreation Programs Grants and State Aids.

The adoption of a CORP is a prerequisite for participation in the state’s Outdoor Recreation Grant programs and a required component of federal applications for parks and recreation grant funding. The Village of Union Grove CORP would be constructed consistent with NR 50. Once adopted, a CORP must be updated every five years. The Village is working with Jeffrey Sanders of Community Planning & Consulting to help develop the CORP. This webpage (uniongrove.net/corp) will be updated as the project progresses.

Public Participation

Park & Recreation Survey – Community members were invited to respond to a survey regarding current park uses and preferences for future amenities and improvements. A hard copy version of the survey was included in the Village Voice newsletter mailed out to all residents around June 1, 2021. An online version of the survey was also posted to this webpage. The survey deadline was June 15, 2021. Survey results will be included in the resulting plan document.

Park Planning Workshop – The formal planning process began with a Community Engagement Session. The purpose of the session was to inform participants of the CORP process, describe existing parks and recreation assets in the community, present Village (and statewide) demographic trends that will guide the CORP planning effort, summarize the results of the park and recreation survey, and identify the recreation amenities desired by residents. The Community Engagement Session took place on August 19, 2021 at 6 p.m.
