DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS: Streets Operator/Laborer

The Village of Union Grove Department of Public Works has an opening for a full-time operator/laborer in streets.  The primary focus will be streets maintenance, snow/ice removal and stormwater.  The position may also be directed to assist with activities associated with water and wastewater.

Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and at least 18 years of age.  Candidate shall possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and a class BCD Commercial Driver’s License with N Endorsement and Air Brakes.  First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to become certified within (1) year.  Be able to keep basic records, document information, write legibly and have good communication with co-workers, management and general public.

Preferred: Experience with basic mechanical equipment operation and troubleshooting, construction principles, computer knowledge and desire to work in customer service.  Should be comfortable with operation of heavy and light equipment and use of small hand and power tools.

Candidate should be willing to learn associated occupational hazards and have ability to understand and promote safe work practices.

Compensation: Hourly, with excellent benefits package per Village Personnel Manual.  Pay will be dependent on qualifications $20 to $25 per hour.

Conditions of Employment: Work is primarily outside field work that may require entry into confined spaces such as manholes.  There can be exposure to inclement weather, fumes, odors and dust that will require use of personal protective equipment.  Candidate must be able to do medium to heavy lifting work involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and walking moderate distances around various sites as well as bending and twisting as necessary.  Good hearing, visual acuity, depth perception and color vision are required.  Selected candidate must pass fit for work physical, alcohol/drug screening and background check prior to first day of employment.

Crossing Guard

Do you have some time to spare on school mornings and/or afternoons? Are you good with children? If so, please consider applying to be a crossing guard, or substitute crossing guard, for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year and help provide an important service to the community! Candidates must be able to pass a background check, and dependability is a must. Hours are from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. There may be occasional early release changing the hours to 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on those days. Crossing guards are paid $15.00 per hour.
